The Elda No. 1 Investigation Court, on duty, issued a provisional detention order without notice and bail for two detainees being investigated in an open case related to a crime against public health. The decision reflects a growing seriousness in the city’s approach to disrupting illegal activities that threaten community welfare and safety.

In a development announced by this newspaper in its digital edition on Wednesday, the National Police announced a significant blow to drug trafficking by dismantling a major outlet for supply in Elda. Authorities reported the seizure of cocaine and marijuana across the province, underscoring the scale of the operation and the coordinated effort involved in tracing supply chains and distribution networks.

During the operation four kilograms of cocaine were recovered from an apartment, located on an area of Luis Batlle Street near the Las 300 and Cocoliche parks and very close to the center of Comuneros de Castilla Square. The seizure also included 4,699 grams of cocaine and 359 grams of marijuana identified during the intervention, highlighting the intensity and thoroughness of the surveillance and search efforts that led to these findings.

Two individuals, both Spanish nationals aged 43 and with police records, were arrested in connection with the investigation. They are expected to face judicial proceedings for the crime of drug dealing, as authorities move forward with the case and present the evidence gathered during the operation.

Inside the residence, a search uncovered 19,704 euros in cash and several knives, suggesting a well-rehearsed setup designed to evade law enforcement and to enable rapid transactions on the street and to hidden networks. The discovery of this material contributed to the overall assessment of the criminal activity and its potential reach within the area.

The operation, conducted on Tuesday, involved the Narcotics Group I of the Alicante Northern District Police Judicial Police and received support from the GOR, the Operational Response Group at the same police station. A large contingent of officers operated discreetly in central streets and busy avenues, ensuring that residents and passers-by were unaware of the ongoing actions until the crucial moment of arrests was at hand.

Following a lengthy and meticulous investigation, agents traced a drug outlet in Elda to the leader of a clan believed to be responsible for supplying cocaine and marijuana to smaller operators within the province. The focus extended to a network that distributed these substances to various destinations within Alicante, highlighting the broader reach of the operation beyond a single location.

Through continuous surveillance and persistent monitoring, investigators observed a steady flow of people entering and leaving the outlet, including buyers and casual consumers. This consistent activity provided the necessary context for a targeted intervention, culminating last Tuesday afternoon with coordinated arrests that reflected careful planning and execution by the police force. The report notes that the team worked with heightened awareness of security measures that the detainees had employed to avoid detection, which intensified the officers’ resolve to act decisively when the entrance door opened.

When the team moved in, officers positioned themselves just inside the doorway and confronted a group of detainees who were gathered inside. The operation included the use of a solid iron rod barrier observed by the officers as a preventive measure to deter entry or escape and to complicate the officers’ ingress. The scene underscored the level of preparation involved by the suspects and the challenges faced by law enforcement during high-stakes drug investigations.
