Canadian authorities report a major success in the fight against drug trafficking in Elda. Four kilograms of cocaine were found concealed within an apartment located on Luis Batlles street, in the area between Las 300 and Cocoliche parks and very close to the center near Comuneros de Castilla Square. The operation underscores the ongoing commitment of local law enforcement to dismantle supply chains and remove illicit substances from the streets.

Two individuals, both Spanish nationals aged 43, were arrested during the intervention. They are expected to face judicial proceedings on charges related to drug dealing and distribution. The arrests mark a significant development in a string of investigations aimed at curtailing narcotics activity in the city.

In addition to the drugs, authorities recovered more than 20,000 euros in cash and a number of knives during the search of the sole residence involved in the case. The recovery of cash is often linked to the proceeds of trafficking, while the weapons are indicators of the potential violence associated with illegal drug markets.

The operation was conducted by the Narcotics Group of the Judicial Police at the Alicante Northern Regional Police Station, with support from the GOR (Response Task Force). A large contingent of agents conducted the operation quietly on a central street near Las 300 and San Francisco neighborhoods, minimizing disruption to residents and passers-by while maximizing control over the scene.

The detainees were placed in secure cells and are scheduled to be presented before the courthouse the following day at Elda’s Guard Court, where judicial authorities will determine next steps in the case. (National Police press release for reference.)

The most recent heavy-handed response to drug trafficking in Elda prior to this operation occurred last June, when police detained two individuals accused of narcotics smuggling. The case highlights the persistent challenges faced by local authorities in tackling the distribution of illegal substances within the city and surrounding areas.

An investigation carried out by the National Police Station Narcotics Group in Elda-Petrer began at the end of May, following several reports about a point of sale for heroin and marijuana in what is known as the Caliu district. The detectives tracked the activity to a residence that was believed to be the hub of this illicit enterprise.

After pinpointing the house where the trafficking activity was taking place, surveillance intensified and the person in charge, a resident of the property, was identified. During the operation, officers arrested the alleged drug dealer as he prepared to distribute cannabis, with about 100 grams recovered at the scene.

Following the arrest, investigators conducted a login and a search of the suspect’s home, a location where they suspected additional illicit substances could be hidden. The search uncovered 900 grams of heroin in the residence, along with equipment used for distribution and sales, underscoring the scale of the operation and the risk posed to the community.

On the same day, a second person was arrested in connection with the case. This individual had indications of collaborating with the primary suspect, and he was taken to the Police Station for formal statements before being released pending further proceedings. The chief investigator was subsequently transferred to the Instruction Court No. 3 in Eldadeciding on custodial measures as necessary during the investigation.
