El Sha Wellness expands into the Mexican Caribbean and beyond

Across the high end tourism sector there has been a rapid recovery after pandemic restrictions began to ease. The business landscape, especially in wellness and luxury hospitality, shows strong resilience. The Sha Wellness Clinic in l’Alfàs del Pi demonstrated this trend by recovering a substantial portion of its turnover in a single financial year after the early covid restrictions in the first year of the outbreak.

Plans for growth remain bold. The family of companies is expanding with new clinics in the Mexican Caribbean and the United Arab Emirates, while continuing to explore partnerships in the hotel sector. North American partner Marriott International is involved, with developments including four luxury resorts in Costa Mujeres and Isla Mujeres, signaling a strong push into the hotel business alongside wellness services.

According to accounts filed with the Albir Hills Resort register, Sha Wellness and its group posted notable figures for 2021, after a dip to 12.7 million the previous year during 2020. The 2021 turnover reached 31.6 million euros, approaching pre pandemic levels of around 37 million previously invoiced, underscoring a quick rebound in demand for wellness offerings and related hospitality services.

One view from the future Marriott and AB Living hotel project in Costa Mujeres illustrates the scale of the planned development with anticipated high-end facilities and wellness integrations, reflecting the group’s ambition for a premier hospitality and wellness experience in the region.

Executives highlight a positive response from the main European markets as admissions by travelers from the United States and certain Arabic regions recover alongside ongoing restrictions in other territories such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany and some Nordic countries. This shift in demand patterns has helped offset declines from specific markets and supported broader growth in the group’s portfolio.

El Sha Wellness is extending its footprint across the Atlantic by opening in the Mexican Caribbean. The emphasis on sustained growth in the Spanish market is also noted, with 2022 showing continued momentum and rising international visitor numbers who value the group’s wellness-first approach and its established reputation among international clients.

On the financial front, the improvement in revenues is mirrored by better results. The Albir Hills Resort reported a swing from a 1 million euro loss in 2020 to a positive result in 2021, with evidence of a recovery trend close to pre pandemic performance levels.

One of the Sha Wellness accommodations in L’Alfàs del Pi stands as a reminder of the company’s roots and ongoing commitment to high-standard wellness experiences.

Expansion continued to unfold with AB Living holding multiple business lines. The company plans a major milestone at the end of the year with the opening of its first clinic outside Spain, in Mexico, aiming to replicate the successful model established in L’Alfàs. Preparations also continue for a third clinic in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, signaling a broader Middle East presence.

In addition to clinical growth, Sha Wellness is advancing into the all-hotel segment. A partnership with Marriott International will see AB Living responsible for construction and Marriott handling hotel management under its global brands. In Costa Mujeres, the project envisions three properties operating under different Marriott brands, including St. Regis, W, and JW Marriott, accompanied by a luxury hotel development near Ladies Island featuring private villas marketed by the Spanish group.

The most advanced phase anticipates a 2025 opening, with design by the Sordo Madaleno studio. The first complex will feature 160 rooms and 82 residences, along with multiple dining venues. Guests will gain access to the future Sha Wellness Mexico experience as part of the integrated wellness and hospitality offering.

cited sources indicate steady momentum in international markets and a strategic shift toward creating a comprehensive wellness-hotels ecosystem that leverages the Sha Wellness brand and Marriott’s management platform. This approach is positioned to attract travelers seeking luxury wellness retreats in top destinations while benefiting from a robust, diversified portfolio.
