The government announced a €200 payment for vulnerable families on a Tuesday. Eligible applicants can file through the A.Ş electronic center starting February 15 and closing March 31, 2023. The State Tax Administration Agency oversees the program as its administering body.
This measure sits within a broader package of steps aimed at softening the economic impact of the war in Ukraine. A royal decree, approved by the Executive and published in the Official State Gazette, establishes an emergency relief plan intended to deliver swift assistance to households in need.
Eligibility targets individuals with 2022 annual employment income up to €27,000 and total assets below €75,000 as of December 31 of the current year. Overall, the initiative could reach up to 4.2 million homes, with the objective of counteracting price pressures associated with the energy crisis tied to the Ukraine conflict.
€200 payment reaches only a portion of the intended beneficiaries
The program has a total budget of €1.2 billion, with payments made via bank transfer. Beneficiaries must have been either self-employed or employed under a regime covering work on behalf of others during 2022. It also includes individuals who maintain a habitual residence in the country and who access Social Security, mutual aid, unemployment benefits, or related subsidies.
According to the decree, recipients of the minimum living income or pensioners under the General Regime, the special Social Security Regimes, or the State Passive Class Regime are not eligible. Individuals who serve as legal directors of a trading company are also excluded from the program.
The decree further outlines that amounts allocated to potential beneficiaries registered in certain autonomous communities will be deposited with the Navarre and Basque Institutions on behalf of those regions. Eligible payments will be administered by the State Tax Administration and issued in advance by the Public Treasury as bank transfers.
