A test of electronic voting was conducted in Moscow ahead of the upcoming September elections, according to the city’s official portal mos.ru. This pilot aimed to showcase how the digital voting tools function in a real-world setting while keeping the core voting processes accessible to residents.
During the trial, approximately 430,000 people were invited to engage with the new voting innovations. Election organizers reported that the systems performed reliably, with the demonstration providing a clear view of how ballots are cast, stored, and counted within the e-voting framework. The exercise helped to verify security measures, user experience, and the integration of online and offline components in the overall process.
The participants in the test were adult residents of Russia who live in Moscow on a permanent basis and hold a full mos.ru account. The event was designed to gauge how citizens would interact with City Day related activities through the digital platform, while also familiarizing them with the broader capabilities of the voting system.
Looking ahead to September, the capital will see residents voting for the mayor of Moscow. In addition, residents from 13 municipalities within TiNAO will participate in elections for representatives to the House. The voting process is planned to occur through a combination of online and offline methods to accommodate different voter needs and preferences.
Voting will take place over a three-day period from September 8 to September 10. Voting sites will be open daily from 08:00 to 20:00, and online voting will be accessible at any time from 08:00 on September 8 through 20:00 on September 10. The scheduling and accessibility are designed to provide flexible options for residents, ensuring broad participation in the electoral process as outlined by the official election authorities on mos.ru.
