A resident of the area, Ca Marí in Migjorn, Formentera, reported a suspicious package washed ashore a bit after eight in the morning. The discovery prompted an immediate call to the Civil Guard to take charge, as stories of drugs wrapped in bales appearing on the island’s beaches have occurred before.

Hours later, authorities confirmed the package contained 40 kilograms of marijuana, marking another seizure along the shoreline. Earlier in the season, a few bales of cannabis had reached Formentera’s beaches, notably the es Còdol Foradat area in Migjorn, underscoring a pattern of maritime drops tied to the same routes.

In March, the Civil Guard recovered 33 bales of poppy from the island’s northern coast near Ibiza. The GEAS, the Civil Guard’s Special Underwater Operations Group, retrieved just over a thousand kilos from the sea during that operation, highlighting the scale of recent efforts to monitor and intercept maritime consignments.

Combining these events with other seizures, authorities have tallied more than three tons of cannabis confiscated in just three days. The latest finding adds an additional 40 kilograms rescued from the water, contributing to an ongoing wave of interceptions aimed at disrupting illicit networks.
