Drones considered for experimental regime in Russia amid infrastructure monitoring and agriculture proposals

Vasily Shpak, deputy minister of industry and trade in the Russian Federation, indicated that certain drones could enter an experimental legal regime and, as a result, be allowed to operate in flight within Russia’s regions. This information was reported by TASS.

He noted that drones used for tracking linear infrastructure or for taxation purposes might be included in the experimental framework. He stressed that the final decision rests with the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Economic Development, noting that those agencies hold the responsibility in this area.

According to Shpak, drones designed to monitor linear facilities are employed to oversee local and national pipelines to prevent accidents and ensure safety across critical infrastructure.

Earlier, Kommersant, citing Vladimir Voloshin, head of the ministry’s digital economy development department, reported that the Ministry of Economy had submitted proposals to permit drone usage in agriculture under the experimental regime.

Sources indicated where the drone operators were located in Russia prior to the start of the program and related preparations.
