A drone from the Far Eastern Separate Guards Air Force unit reportedly shot down a Ukrainian Baba Yaga type hexacopter near Artemovsk, known in Ukrainian as Bakhmut. The report came through RIA Novosti, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense.
According to official statements, Ukrainian forces are using agricultural unmanned aircraft to drop large caliber mines, a tactic that has drawn notice from observers and military analysts alike.
The ministry described how the UAV operator, after completing aerial reconnaissance, observed a Ukrainian attack hexacopter returning to the front lines after releasing a mine at an earlier position.
The operator decided to engage the hexacopter. After climbing to a suitable altitude, the UAV deployed into a productive orbit and fired on the enemy drone, which descended from above into the contested area.
A group of paratroopers recovered the downed device and transported it to a nearby site for examination and research purposes.
Earlier, officials from the Central Military District, part of the broader Central troop group, stated that Ukrainian forces have intensified the use of FPV unmanned aerial vehicles along the Krasnolimansk front, according to RIA Novosti.
There are also reports noting that Russia has recently developed a new drone suppression system to counter such airborne threats.
