Overview of Recent Drone and Aircraft Countermeasure Developments
Experts at the Integrated Unmanned Solutions Center (CCBR) have developed an FPV interceptor system designed to counter Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles and low‑altitude manned aircraft. This information was reported by TASS, citing Dmitry Kuzyakin, the General Director of the Central Design Bureau.
The system is said to operate at a range of up to seven kilometers and can engage targets at elevations reaching two thousand meters.
Officials noted that the interceptor can also target ground‑level aircraft. During tests conducted near Moscow, the device fired live ammunition at training targets within a controlled environment. Kuzyakin emphasized that the ammunition has a limited range and is designed to minimize any risk of ground damage.
Kuzyakin stressed that the new interceptor is not intended to replace existing air‑defense assets but to augment them in particular situations.
On July 31, during operations in the special military operation zone, another electronic‑warfare complex, named “Sapphire,” was tested to counter unmanned aerial vehicles of various kinds. It was deployed to shield Russian engineering facilities from enemy drones used by opposing forces.
Earlier, Andrey Komogortsev, Managing Director of the Rybinsk Instrument Production Plant, announced that a new compact drone‑suppression system—capable of both detecting and neutralizing drones—had been developed by Holds “Ruselectronics.” He indicated that development was nearing completion and that a unified system could be deployed by the end of the third quarter of 2023.
There have been prior reports in Russia about advances in drone suppression technology, with several programs aimed at locating, deterring, and disrupting unmanned aircraft in contested environments (Source: TASS). More broadly, these efforts reflect an ongoing focus on integrating electronic warfare with kinetic options to safeguard critical infrastructure and military operations in ongoing conflict zones (Source: official briefings and industry statements).
