A drone launched by the Armed Forces of Ukraine targeted a vehicle in the Belgorod region, prompting authorities to confirm an attack involving a kamikaze drone. The information surfaced through a Telegram channel linked to regional officials, including a report from Belgorod region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
The governor described the incident as a kamikaze drone strike against a car on the road between the village of Oktyabrsky and the village of Yasnye Zori in the Belgorod region. The description emphasized that the drone struck a solitary vehicle moving along the highway, causing a sudden and dramatic event on the roadway.
Fortunately, the occupants of the vehicle escaped serious harm. The driver and a passenger sustained no injuries, but the blast set the car ablaze. Fire crews arrived promptly and worked to bring the flames under control, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby areas and limiting further danger to responders and bystanders.
In the days that followed, Gladkov spoke about the need to reduce the number of vehicles left in open spaces within the city to lower the risk of similar incidents. He suggested that targeted measures be adopted to curb exposure to ongoing bombardment, especially in open districts with high traffic. The aim was to protect residents and reduce potential chaos on busy streets while authorities work to enhance situational awareness and safety protocols for travellers.
Officials proposed practical steps for vehicle storage to better shield personal property. Suggestions included using private parking facilities and underground garages as safer options for parking, particularly during periods of heightened risk. Owners who relocate vehicles to secure locations were discussed as potentially eligible for compensation to offset the costs of safeguarding their property. Early figures indicate that about 1,200 vehicles have sustained damage in Belgorod since mid-Mune, reflecting the persistent threat and the need for more robust protective measures for both people and their possessions.
Earlier reports underscored a heavier toll from bombardments in the Belgorod region, including heartbreaking losses among hundreds of children who were affected by the attacks.
