A fatal crash on the highway left one person dead and three others seriously injured, including a 4-year-old boy. The collision occurred when two vehicles collided head on as one of them traveled in the opposite direction near Alcorcón, in the Madrid region, along the M-50 corridor.
According to an Emergencias 112 spokesperson, multiple calls were received around three in the morning reporting a vehicle moving the wrong way. The impact happened at the 62nd kilometer mark, resulting in a devastating head on collision between the two cars.
Emergency crews from Alcorcón City Council, along with Civil Protection personnel, the Civil Guard, and Summa 112, arrived at the scene. A family in a smoothly running vehicle was involved in the incident. Attempts to revive the driver of the car that was severely injured were unsuccessful. The 42-year-old man who was driving died, while his 39-year-old wife and their 4-year-old son suffered injuries and were hospitalized in what was described as potentially serious condition on October 12.
The other vehicle involved was driven by a 35-year-old woman who became trapped in her car and was freed by Alcorcón firefighters before Summa 112 transported her to Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Madrid for treatment.
Investigators from the Civil Guard provided details to the press due to the involvement of a Colombian national in the incident. The hospital reported that alcohol or drug tests could not be completed at the scene. Authorities noted signs suggesting possible intoxication and requested a judicial review to determine whether illegal substances or alcohol influenced the crash. Urine analysis would be conducted to confirm impairment, with results expected in the following days.
A criminal complaint has been filed against the driver of the vehicle that caused the frontal collision. The case involves charges of negligent homicide and road safety offenses. Depending on the injuries sustained by the female passenger and the child, additional charges related to wounding could be pursued as part of the ongoing investigation.
