Domestic violence cases prompt investigations and criminal charges in Russia

Investigators describe a case from March in which a married couple argued in an apartment on Mayakovsky Street in Dzerzhinsk. The husband, who was intoxicated, struck his wife, who was 50 years old, while she was in the apartment. The clash led to injuries that required medical attention, but she did not receive care for three days after the incident. When she was eventually hospitalized, medical staff were unable to save her life. The woman, who suffered life-threatening injuries, died shortly after admission to the hospital. The gravity and timing of the injuries prompted the Investigation Committee to open a criminal case focused on intentional grievous bodily harm and the violent circumstances surrounding the death of a local resident. The man responsible has been charged in connection with the incident. In another incident reported on March 24, a resident of Transbaikalia was detained after beating a friend with a chain.
