Turisme Comunitat Valenciana and the Valencian Community Council of Economists are backing the digital shift of the tourism sector with a concrete action plan announced in Alicante by the Regional Secretary of Tourism, along with the dean of the Alicante Official College of Economists at the Alicante Tourism Center.

The plan, funded with twenty thousand euros and born from a collaboration agreement between the two institutions, targets information sharing, outreach, awareness, and training for employers and professionals. It emphasizes the need for digital skills and guides local businesses through the process of digital transformation.

The Regional Tourism Secretary underscored that this action plan captures the opportunities of the era and stressed that there is no alternative to digital transformation. A proactive and innovative stance is essential to avoid stagnation.

Colomer highlighted the plan’s potential to reach thousands of SMEs, small enterprises, self-employed individuals, and family-owned businesses, ensuring they do not miss the transformation momentum. He indicated that digital readiness will shape the sector’s future viability.

The head of Turisme argued that competitiveness now hinges on artificial intelligence, while also affirming the enduring value of human-centric hospitality and customer service as core differentiators in the transformation. The plan includes considerations to strengthen digital maturity in these areas.

The dean of the Official College of Economists in Alicante noted that both public and private sector representatives must adapt to ongoing technological change. He explained that the action plan is designed to promote the digital transformation of tourism businesses through dissemination and educational initiatives.

He also mentioned the development of practical guidelines, including a framework for preparing didactic materials for in-person training and the creation of a database of technological solutions.

Digital Transformation Plan

The plan includes the preparation and dissemination of a guide for the digital transformation of tourism businesses. To date, five hundred copies have been produced for the professional community and are available online in digital format.

The didactic and practical handbook, the details of which were shared recently, focuses especially on small tourism businesses with fewer than ten employees. The aim is to show that digital transformation is both a necessity and an opportunity to boost productivity, competitiveness, and growth.

Additionally, the two institutions are producing associated educational materials to guide and advise entrepreneurs through outreach sessions across several municipalities in the Valencian Community. The effort involves collaboration with the Tourism Centers Network. For those unable to attend in person, six concise educational modules summarizing the guide’s key points will be introduced as part of the program.
