Detention and Recovery After Girona Restaurant Bonsai Theft

Robo in the Celler de Can Roca restaurant in Girona. A man, already detained by the Mossos, stole four olive bonsai valued at 2,000 euros. The incident dates back to the early hours of February 16, when, around three in the morning, an individual managed to gain access to the establishment, specifically the interior courtyard.

The thief was dressed in a white tracksuit and a white cap, making him noticeable even in dim light. Yet he managed to enter the inner courtyard and remove four olive bonsai, each valued at 500 euros. To accomplish this, he had to carry out two incursions, meaning he entered and exited the venue twice.

Detention of the suspect

The theft occurred in the early hours at this prestigious restaurant located on Can Sunyer Street in the Taialà district of Girona. Hours after the events, the restaurant’s management filed a report with the Mossos d’Esquadra.

What followed was a police investigation conducted by agents from the Girona precinct. The inquiry relied on surveillance footage from area cameras, physical evidence, and additional information that eventually led investigators to the thief. The case culminated on March 7 with the arrest of the alleged author.

Recovery of the bonsai plants

Separately, investigators located and recovered all four bonsai trees taken from the Celler de Can Roca, and they were subsequently returned to their rightful owners. The arrestee, a 37-year-old resident of Girona, has been charged as the alleged perpetrator of a breaking-and-entering theft with force.
