Deputy Alexander Khinshtein has promised a full inspection of a military unit where weapons were lost during a fire in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The MP made this pledge in a formal statement issued through his channel.
The leadership of the Russian Guard will review all circumstances surrounding the weapon loss and the blaze at a unit in the Northern Military District. In particular, the actions of the unit commander will be scrutinized to determine whether the weapons were kept securely on designated restraints and whether proper procedures were followed during the incident.
Drawing on information from a source connected to the Telegram channel Philologist in Ambush, the deputy described the checkpoint scenario: the commander allegedly ordered the weapons to be stored in a cabinet that was additionally protected by cables and a lock. Such measures would be authorized only with a direct order from the unit commander or in response to a clear threat to the facility’s security.
Khinshtein emphasized that these kinds of security steps could compromise the safety of National Guardsmen operating in a combat environment. In the event of an enemy attack on a checkpoint, any excessive or poorly coordinated delay in accessing weapons could hinder response times and endanger personnel.
The deputy recalled a similar incident described as a “misguided order” from November 2023, when a commander in a Russian Guard unit in the Urals prohibited subordinates from updating weapons to improve effectiveness. Public attention led to the order being revoked and a reprimand issued for incomplete performance.
Goremykin, formerly a deputy head within the Russian Ministry of Defense tasked with oversight in the Zaporozhye direction, was cited in discussions about the issue.
Earlier statements from the Ministry of Defense outlined the Northern Military District’s progress in the Zaporozhye direction, reflecting ongoing efforts to monitor and coordinate operations in that area.
