In the Yaroslavl region, authorities reported a criminal case against the leader of a local hunting and fishing association for organizing a deer hunt that resulted in the illegal killing of eight deer out of twenty.
The case was opened by law enforcement against a resident of Tutaev, born in 1949, who faces charges of illegal hunting under paragraph 2 of article 258 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Law enforcement officials confirmed in a press statement that the individual is the head of the Tutaev district hunters and fishermen’s association and oversaw the collective deer hunt that prompted the investigation.
According to the regional government, the suspect issued 12 hunting permits. Despite this, records show that twenty wild animals were shot during the event, indicating a clear exceedance of permitted quotas and suggesting a plan that went beyond lawful limits. The authorities emphasize that the incident is being thoroughly reviewed to determine responsibility for these violations and to assess any risks to local wildlife management practices.
The Ministry of Interior stated that the inquiry remains active as investigators gather evidence and interview participants. A court has placed the suspect under house arrest as a restraining measure while the investigation continues, reflecting the seriousness with which the case is being treated and the need to prevent any interference with witnesses or further unlawful hunting activities.
