Forecast: December temperatures across Russia expected to be near or above normal, Interfax reports

December weather outlook indicates temperatures in every region of Russia are likely to stay near normal or slightly higher than average. Interfax relays this assessment from Roman Vilfand, the scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, who notes there should be no region with below-normal temperatures that month. The overall pattern points to a broad mild bias, with ordinary winter days interspersed by occasional warmth for large parts of the country.

Vilfand further explained that December could see more frequent incursions by Atlantic cyclone activity into the Asian part of Russia, a phenomenon not typically common for this time of year. Forecasters describe such intrusions as uncommon but plausible, potentially bringing gusty winds and mixed precipitation to eastern regions as cold air remains in place to meet these systems.

As for precipitation, most of the European portion of Russia is expected to receive near-normal rainfall. In contrast, the Asian regions may experience a moisture deficit in several areas, including Ryazan, Voronezh, Tula, Lipetsk, Tambov, and the southern segment of the Central Federal District, signaling drier conditions there.

On November 27, Vladimir Surdin, a senior researcher at the Sternberg State Institute for Astronomy, reported that Moscow should witness two bright meteor showers in December: Geminids and Ursids. Observing conditions are anticipated to be favorable due to clear weather and minimal cloud cover, with no viewing restrictions noted for these events.

For outdoor activity, the coldest weather remains manageable with proper precautions. Experts advise dressing in layers, paying attention to wind chill, and staying aware of sudden weather shifts, even when forecasts show near-normal December conditions across most of the country.
