This Orihuela Court of First Instance No. 2 canceled more than 95,000 euros of debt. A new practice has emerged in the province under the Second Chance Law. Since 2015, citizens can use the bankruptcy provision just as companies do to receive a discharge from unfulfilled obligations. In other words, debts can be forgiven and lifetime indebtedness can be erased, provided all conditions are met.

The person affected lives in the Orihuela judicial district. In 2007 he opened a credit card account. According to Antoni Galve, legal director of Repara tu Deuda Abogados, a specialist law firm handling these procedures, the card carried very high interest at the time, around 24 percent. This rate caused a rapid growth in the amount of unpaid loans within a short period.

Compounding the problem, a series of events in 2012 led the individual to begin receiving a disability pension. The pension amount is only half of the minimum wage, which reduced his payment capacity and worsened his financial situation.

A Torrevieja judge has forgiven a debt of 72,075 euros for a pensioner who had requested 34 loans to help relatives.

To address the situation, the person took out another line of credit to manage payments on the previous loan. That loan only added to the overall debt until the debtor could no longer face the obligation, by which time the total exceeded 95,000 euros. The person did not possess any assets that could be used to reduce the amount.

May arrived this year when the individual contacted Repara tu Deuda and began the process to take advantage of the Second Chance Law. The court ultimately exempted the person from the debt, amounting to 95,265 euros, after confirming that all conditions were met.

The growing appeal of opportunities under this law has coincided with a rise in bankruptcies. In the first nine months of the year, there were 717 requests, with more than 300 filed by private individuals.

A separate case in Alicante saw a man discharged after declaring bankruptcy over a debt exceeding 61,000 euros. Antoni Galve noted that the process has continued to simplify under the new bankruptcy framework as more people become aware of the possibility of debt relief. This trend is part of a broader shift toward accessible debt resolution options for individuals facing financial distress.

At every stage, these cases illustrate how individual debtors are navigating the system to regain financial stability. The emphasis remains on meeting all criteria, including the feasibility of repayment plans and the absence of certain disqualifying assets. The stories highlight real people seeking relief and the role of legal support in guiding them through the process.
