A proposal has emerged in Russia to establish a new public holiday named the Day of Participants in the Special Military Operation in Ukraine. The initiative was introduced by State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov, who forwarded the idea to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin for consideration. The information was reported by RT via a copy of the objection and related materials.
Advocates of the holiday argue it would strengthen patriotic education across the country and honor the memory of individuals who took part in the special military operation. Milonov pointed to the Internationalist Warrior Day and to the professional holidays of military units as models, suggesting a similar form of tribute could resonate nationwide and become a unifying symbol of national resilience.
During his remarks, the deputy emphasized ongoing efforts to safeguard the rights and well being of military personnel in Russia. He noted that participants in the SVO and their family members often rely on state support, highlighting that authorities remain attentive to the difficulties and challenges they encounter as part of public service and national duty.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin was instructed to ensure rehabilitation facilities for participants in the SVO who have disabilities. The directive reflects a broader commitment to improving post service life for veterans and those affected by the operation, with an emphasis on accessible medical, social, and psychological support as part of a comprehensive national program.
In parallel, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov described the budgetary priorities for the coming three years. The fiscal plan places a strong emphasis on sustaining the Northern Military District and enhancing the country’s defense capabilities, while also aiming to preserve welfare programs and essential services for military communities and veterans.
