Police in Benalmádena reported a dawn arrest after a disturbance at a tourist apartment building. A 29-year-old man, described as visibly agitated, was seen in the building’s common areas wearing a mask and carrying a large pointed object. He moved through the property, decomposing into a confrontation by barricading himself inside an apartment and throwing items onto the street from a balcony. The situation prompted a substantial police response as officers and negotiators engaged with the suspect, eventually forcing entry to immobilize him.
The individual was taken into custody on charges including harm, aggression toward police officers, and alleged involvement in related incidents connected to the initial threat episode.
The incident began around 01:45 when authorities received a report about a masked stranger carrying a large knife in the building’s common areas. It was also noted that the suspect had released a fire extinguisher into the stairwell during the escalation.
Initial responders from the police quickly arrived and attempted to gain access through an apartment door. They encountered a locked entry and proceeded with cautioned, measured actions to assess the living space and determine the best way to ensure the safety of nearby residents.
Projectiles, heat, and a tense standoff
The scenario intensified as residents reported the tenant began hurling various heavy items down to the street. The debris included a fire extinguisher, a five-liter bucket of boiling water, an abrasive liquid with a bleach-like odor, gym weights, seven knives, a microwave, and assorted kitchenware. To protect pedestrians in a crowded area, officials sealed off the vicinity and managed traffic and access to the promenade.
The suspect also became verbally threatening, indicating intent to trigger an explosion while holding a lit candle in one hand and a container with flammable liquid in the other.
The escalation drew a large police mobilization across the district, including several radio-equipped patrol units, the deployment of a professional negotiator, and the involvement of GOES, the Special Security Operations Group. The event required coordinated action to de‑escalate and resolve the crisis without casualties.
At approximately 6:30 am, GOES officers entered the residence and neutralized the lone occupant who had barricaded himself inside. A protective refrigerator was positioned at the main doorway to curb any immediate intrusion by intruders who might attempt to re-enter the space.
Auxiliary officers, working with the local fire service, laid down protective mats on nearby streets as a precaution while the situation was contained and the danger to bystanders was minimized. There were no reported injuries to the public or to responding personnel as the scene was secured.
Crews observed damage within the home, the shared areas of the building, and several parked vehicles in the vicinity. The incident concluded with the suspect under control and the area gradually reopened to residents and visitors once safety was assured.
