Crimes against sexual freedom and the pursuit of compensation have become a central concern for legal authorities and the State Security Forces, as there is a notable rise in such incidents in recent years. A man of North African descent was reported to have assaulted his ex-wife in Zaragoza on a Saturday, supposedly returning home to see the children, only to commit a sexual assault in front of them. He was detained by agents of the National Police Agency and remains in custody as the case proceeds.
The events occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, when the emergency service 091 received a call describing a possible sexual assault at a residence on Princess Street. A team from the Citizen Security Brigade of the Aragon Police Department responded to the scene and verified the report. It was observed that one of the girls approached the building’s porch to intervene and stop the assault against the mother, prompting the urgent intervention of authorities.
According to information obtained by El Periódico de Aragon, a publication from the Prensa Ibérica group, the suspect allegedly pushed his ex-girlfriend into a room of the house and forced sexual relations despite her resistance. Law enforcement officials proceeded to arrest the individual identified by the initials SA on suspicion of sexual assault, pending judicial review.
The investigation is being conducted by the Family and Women’s Care Unit (UFAM) of the Aragon Police Department. Separately, the victim received medical attention and was transported to Miguel Servet University Hospital in Zaragoza as part of the protocol for caring for women who have experienced sexual violence. The clinical evaluation conducted by healthcare professionals is expected to play a crucial role as the case advances through the judicial process under the supervision of Zaragoza’s 5th Investigating Court.
In related support measures, women seeking help in cases of abuse can access a 24/7 nationwide helpline for confidential guidance. The service is designed to provide immediate support and practical information to those affected, with measures in place to protect the caller’s privacy in accordance with reporting protocols. This resource is intended to complement medical and legal interventions as the investigation progresses, and is part of the broader framework of protection and assistance for victims of gender-based violence.
