A resident of the Tver region is due in court on accusations of endangering the life of a newborn. Authorities say a man threw the infant at the entrance of a residential building in an effort to deflect suspicion from the mother. The information comes from the Regional Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.
As investigators report, on March 1, 2024, a young mother gave birth at home and entrusted the newborn girl to her father. The man placed the baby in a basket, accompanied the infant to a neighboring town, and left the child at the doorway of a residential building before vanishing from the scene.
Residents of the building later discovered the child and managed to rescue her, after which both the mother and the father were located. A criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident. The defendant stated that his actions aimed to shield the mother from public judgment and scrutiny from relatives, while getting rid of the newborn at the same time. Court materials are presently under review by investigators.
Earlier reports described a separate incident in the Moscow region in which passersby found a crying infant and discovered the parents unconscious nearby. The infant was placed in a stroller, while the parents lay beside him; witnesses suggested that both parents might have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Following the discovery, a criminal case was initiated in connection with the event.
In another prior case, similar concerns arose after a mother gave birth to twins who remained at home and required intensive care for the newborns.
