Court in Udmurtia sentences 25-year-old for assault on police and arson attempt
The Supreme Court of the Udmurt Republic handed down a 17-year prison sentence to a 25-year-old resident of Izhevsk for actions that included assaulting police officers and attempting to set fire to a police department building. This information was reported by Lenta.ru, citing the joint press service of the courts of Udmurtia.
According to the ruling, the defendant will serve the first three years in a standard prison regime, followed by 14 years in a strict regime colony. The man partially admitted guilt and expressed remorse for his actions.
As per court documents, on the night of November 3 the individual arrived at Police Station No. 2 carrying 13 Molotov cocktails and also brought three knives in case of confrontation with officers.
When patrol officers attempted to detain him, the suspect attacked them with a knife, injuring two law enforcement personnel. In response, service weapons were deployed against the assailant. Two patrol officers required hospitalization, with one in serious condition.
The case remained under the oversight of the Investigative Committee headquarters in Russia, indicating continued active supervision of the proceedings.
Earlier reports noted the sentencing of Kirill Butylin, known for arson at a military recruitment office in Lukhovitsy near Moscow, who received a 13-year prison term.
