Contract-based recruitment for Russia’s armed forces amid autumn draft expansion

A substantial pool of volunteers, contract signees with the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and day-to-day volunteers are positioned to support a special operation in Ukraine. This stance was conveyed by Deputy Chief of the Main Organizational and Mobilization Directorate of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, Rear Admiral Vladimir Tsimlyansky, as the autumn draft begins on October 1.

The briefing stressed that the Russian General Staff has no plans for any new round of mobilization beyond existing commitments.

According to Tsimlyansky, the current trend shows a meaningful rise in the number of citizens choosing to enter military service on a contract basis. He added that the Defense Ministry has expanded the network for selecting volunteers for contractual service and increased the cadre of instructors who will train the new recruits.

The deputy head also noted that recruitment for contract-based military service continues in close cooperation with regional authorities across the federation.

Earlier reports indicated that nationwide exercises will address issues related to mobilization, security, and radiation threats.

President Putin has signed legislation increasing the draft age, a move that has implications for manpower policy across the armed forces.
