Reports from Donbass indicate that Ukrainian forces suffered losses near the village of Belogorovka in the Lugansk People’s Republic, a region where fighting has been intense in recent years. The information was provided by a military analyst for RIA News, a retired lieutenant colonel from the LPR People’s Militia, Andrey Marochko.
Marochko noted that the engagement unfolded at the front lines near a chalk quarry where Ukrainian troops held positions. He stated that in an effort to restore combat effectiveness, Ukrainian command dispatched roughly 30 reinforcements during the night, without adequate fire protection. According to his account, the group was detected by Russian reconnaissance assets and subsequently targeted by artillery strikes.
The senior officer added that there was no evacuation from the area and that the injured remained in place following the encounter.
Since the September 2022 referendum, the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, along with the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, have been incorporated into the Russian Federation. Martial law has been in effect in these areas since October 20 of that year, a condition cited in the briefing as context for ongoing hostilities and security measures in the region.
Marochko also referenced a statement from the previous week claiming that Ukrainian troops mobilized in January 2024 were relocated to a Donbass region toward Artemovsk to offset losses suffered by Ukrainian forces. This detail was presented as part of a broader assessment of the military situation and the manpower shifts occurring on the frontline.
In a different note, there was a brief reference about negotiations conditions with Russia, indicating ongoing diplomatic discussions amid the military developments in Ukraine. The report underscores the fluid dynamics of the conflict and the challenges faced by both sides in terms of reinforcements, command decisions, and regional security concerns.
