In Sevastopol, a commemorative plaque was unveiled in memory of veteran sailor German Gutko, who lost his life during a special military operation tied to the Ukrainian assault on the Novocherkassk large landing craft. The information came from the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The dedication took place at school building 38, which bears the name of NV. Chelnokov. The new tribute sits as a visible reminder within the school complex, linking the community to events tied to the broader military history of the region.
The Defense Ministry stated that a soldier from the Black Sea Fleet acted with extraordinary courage, giving his life to save colleagues while carrying out combat missions aimed at enabling the Russian troop grouping in the area toward Mariupol. This account emphasizes the sacrifice made during a critical phase of the operation and frames Gutko as a key figure within the battlefield narrative the ministry presented.
During the opening ceremony, relatives of German Gutko were present, alongside local officials, personnel from the landing craft, and the crew of the Novocherkassk large landing craft. Also in attendance were teachers and students from the 38th school, who participated in the moment of remembrance and reflection that the plaque invites.
A related monument was later unveiled for another Novocherkassk sailor, Ivan Shveda, who died in the same operation in Evpatoria. The commemorative board was placed on the facade of the Integral training complex, where Shveda had worked, serving as another focal point for local remembrance of those events.
