The Civil Guard in La Rioja is conducting a formal investigation following a warning call about a bomb at a secondary school in the town of Rincón de Soto. The caller claimed a device had been planted at the institute and referenced a child under 14 as the alleged perpetrator of the public disturbance.

The investigation began around 8:20 a.m. on Monday after the Civil Guard received a 112 emergency line report. The caller used audio jamming to conceal the source and the nature of the threat, claiming an explosive device was inside the school.

Initial findings identified the person who placed the call as a 14-year-old girl, with two other youths aged 12 and 13 initially considered not liable. The matter is being handled by the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office while authorities verify all details.

To verify the alert and ensure safety, canine units specialized in explosive detection were deployed to the school. Officers from Citizen Security, the Information Service, and the Explosives Disarmament Expert Group joined the operation.

After the evacuation of 85 people, including students and staff, no explosive devices were found and the situation was declared a false alarm following a thorough search of the premises.

The Civil Guard reminds the public that making false emergency calls is a crime under public order provisions of the Criminal Code. Those who misrepresent or simulate dangerous situations that lead to the mobilization of public services face penalties, including potential imprisonment and fines.

Additionally, the La Rioja Civil Protection and Emergency Attention Act classifies malicious search activity as a very serious offense with substantial penalties.
