A 37-year-old man from Barcelona died last Thursday night at Hospital Clinic after an incident that eyewitnesses described as chaotic and distressing. Three people consulted by El Periódico de Catalunya said bystanders requested an ambulance to 112 when they saw the man collapse, but the emergency response arrived only after the man had suffered a cardiac and respiratory arrest. The first call to Emergencies occurred only after significant delay. Police sources confirmed the late arrival and explained that the man, who struck his head on a parked car, disappeared while officers were holding him to prevent harm in front of a bystander who identified himself as a doctor. Witnesses corroborated the police account. The Medical Emergency System (SEM) has said the incident was initially classified as minor when it entered the system at 9:50 PM, but about thirty minutes later the severity was upgraded to serious and the ambulance was described as arriving within three minutes based on a later assessment.
