Compensation has been awarded to a child who endured an attack by a pack of stray dogs in Novy Urengoy, according to the press service of the prosecutor’s office for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

In December 2023, as the girl was making her way home, stray dogs assaulted her. The girl sustained multiple injuries and was admitted to hospital; though the injuries were serious, they did not threaten the child’s life. The investigation confirmed the dogs were uncontrolled strays, and a legal action was initiated seeking compensation for moral damages on behalf of the minor. The court sided with the prosecutor’s office, approving the administration’s liability and ordering the city to provide compensation. The Novy Urengoy municipality was required to pay the child one million rubles in moral damages.

In February 2024, a separate incident occurred at a residence in Dalnerechensk where an unattended Rottweiler attacked a 12-year-old boy. The child received wounds to the left arm, right leg, and back. The court held the dog’s owner financially responsible, ordering 350 thousand rubles in moral damages to the youngster.

Earlier reports referenced an incident in which a husky wandered without an owner in the Leningrad region and gnawed a woman’s finger.
