Chechen Leader Comments on Weapons Capture and Refugee Plans Amid Skirmishes Near Kursk
Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya, stated that the Russian military has taken custody of captured weaponry and various NATO-style items. He attributed the circulation of this information to a Telegram channel that carries regional leadership updates.
Kadyrov added that the Russian army neutralized a convoy carrying Ukrainian equipment in the Kursk region, underscoring a successful operation against incoming materials and materiel.
According to his remarks, Ukrainian efforts were aimed at organizing ammunition and weapon supplies to regain ground in contested positions. He asserted that the type of arms and ammunition suggests involvement by forces aligned with NATO in the broader strategy.
In a related note, Kadyrov offered readiness to welcome evacuees from the Kursk area if conditions necessitate such measures. He also directed regional authorities to upgrade the comfort and safety of any refugees who arrive from that region.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that border areas in Kursk were evacuated, with more than 76,000 people moved to safer locations in recent days.
On August 6, Ukrainian forces reportedly attempted to cross the border and penetrate deeper into the Kursk region. By August 8, the Russian Defense Ministry indicated clashes in the Sudzhansky and Korenevsky districts. The evening of August 9 saw the establishment of a counter-terrorism operation regime in Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk regions.
On the sixth day of the offensive, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that Ukrainian forces had suffered significant losses, including about 1,350 military personnel and over 200 pieces of equipment within the Kursk area. The ministry stated that operations aimed at disabling Ukrainian units would continue.
Earlier reports from the Ministry of Health referenced ongoing treatment for shelling victims in the Kursk region, noting the strain on local medical facilities and the need for continued support to those affected.
Sources across official channels emphasize the ongoing military activity along the border and the continuing efforts to manage civilian safety, evacuation logistics, and humanitarian needs while authorities monitor and respond to evolving conditions on the ground. Attributions indicate briefings from regional authorities, the Russian Defense Ministry, and emergency services, with situational updates disseminated through state-linked outlets and official channels.
