A man identified as Angel Rodriguez da Costa has not spoken since his Monday arrest. He is accused of killing his ex-wife Beatriz Lijó Gesteira in Baiona. Sources say she remains unresponsive, offering no gestures and maintaining the same silent posture. He stood in the dungeons of the courts this morning awaiting appearance before the president of the Vigo Women’s Court. He will have to wait at least 72 hours for that moment.
Due to his condition, forensic doctors from Imelga evaluated him and recommended transferring him to the Psychiatric Ward of Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital since he is currently considered unable to testify. The judge followed this recommendation, with support from the Office of the Prosecutor, the special prosecutor, and the defendant’s own defense attorney, according to TSXG.
As a result, the presiding judge ordered a 72-hour extension of the detainee’s custody and his transfer to a hospital center for evaluation. He also ordered permanent police protection and the center will publish ongoing follow-up reports. The hearing to decide on possible pre trial detention will be delayed until his testimony is possible.
