A long-standing tile maker, Cerámica La Escandella, saw its turnover climb to nearly 64 million euros in the same year it joined the Edilians group, a French multinational. Pre-tax results remained solid with a positive balance of 5.7 million euros, marking an improvement over the previous year.

In 2022, the accounts filed in the Commercial Register reflect a remarkable leap in revenue, rising from 47.4 million to 63.7 million euros, an increase of 34.19 percent. The management report notes a difficult environment shaped by a broad rise in costs during the year, aggravated by the war in Ukraine which disrupted international energy markets, particularly natural gas. Prices had begun their climb in August 2021 and peaked in mid-2022, making it a major test for the company to manage margins and costs effectively. The effect on results is clearly acknowledged.

The report also points out that ongoing increases in commodity and energy prices prompted cost-to-sales adjustments while the company worked to preserve margins as much as possible. It stresses that 2022 was a year marked by rising prices and continued activity in euro terms, with activity levels roughly on par with the previous year.

Looking ahead, the authors forecast that 2023 would see the market absorb last year’s price rises, with the year expected to unfold at similar levels to 2022 and to deliver positive outcomes for the business.

Alongside financial performance, the report highlights a strong focus on innovation and the development of new products. Ongoing research plans are aimed at improving the quality of articles and boosting market recognition in this area.

In tandem with growth, the company continues to invest in environmental initiatives, including photovoltaic solar energy projects to increase energy independence and reduce pollutants in production. A notable example is participation in the Foto-Cer program, alongside seven other Spanish firms and the CDTI, which seeks to create roofing and façade products capable of functioning as solar panels by converting sunlight into electricity.

All of this is being advanced under the ownership of the French multinational Edilians after a buyout completed last year. The decision to pass management beyond the Román siblings reflected a transition in leadership rather than a generational shift, with the aim of sustaining the company’s momentum and market position.

As part of its strategic approach, La Escandella emphasizes sustainable production, price resilience, and product innovation. The company’s trajectory in 2022 and its plans for the coming year illustrate a path focused on profitability, energy efficiency, and product diversification that aligns with broader European trends in construction materials and green energy integration. The collaboration with Edilians signals a committed strategy to expand geographic reach while upholding a balance between cost management and value creation for customers and stakeholders [1].
