Cemex has earned recognition for its Alicante factory due to its impressively low accident rate and its ongoing commitment to health and safety. In 2021, the site received a global Health and Safety Award, underscoring Cemex’s intention to publicly acknowledge the Alicante team’s efforts to achieve and advance safety and health throughout operations.

To celebrate this dedication, Sergio Menéndez, president of Cemex Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia, joined with Benjamín Cabrera, Director of Operations, and Fernando Enriquez, Vice President of Operations for Cemex Emea to present the awards. The facility has already secured a two-year accident-free record with no temporary disabilities recorded, and the Clotet farm site has similarly remained free of incidents for fourteen years.

Ultimately, the Alicante operation was honored with the Health and Safety Award 2021 in the Most Improved Cement Sector category, marking it as the second most developed site globally in health and safety performance at the industry level.

These accolades align with Cemex’s global strategy to prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of its workforce in every activity. The company pursues a goal of Zero Accidents and supports ongoing internal and external campaigns to reinforce the critical importance of safe work practices.

To realize this objective, Cemex operates a Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) that systematically assesses potential risks, identifies safety hazards, and implements harmonized standards and guidelines to prevent accidents. This framework facilitates the continuous exchange of knowledge, strengthening the health, safety, reliability, and efficiency of operations across the organization.

In this context, Cemex has established itself as a leader with one of the lowest accident rates in the sector and a rate of work-related illnesses well below the industry average. Notably, many Cemex plants celebrated a year without sick leave or accidents in February, a national acknowledgment that highlights the excellent work performed by the company and its employees across its six Spanish factories.

Cemex is a global building materials producer committed to carbon neutrality through ongoing innovation and leadership in research and development. The company champions the circular economy in the construction value chain and advances innovative processes through advanced technologies. Its operations emphasize greater use of residues and waste as raw materials and alternative fuels, spanning cement, concrete, aggregate, and urban solutions in rapidly expanding markets worldwide. This progress is supported by a multinational workforce focused on delivering a superior customer experience enabled by digital technologies, with Cemex’s building materials technology development and application projects coordinated through the global R&D network managed by the Switzerland-based CEMEX Research Centre.
