The Castrillón Local Police, working in tandem with the Civil Guard and the National Police after investigations that began this morning, have confirmed a tragedy on the coast. A body found earlier this Wednesday has been identified as a 16-year-old individual. The discovery did not occur inside the central precinct but on the fringes of Oviedo, where authorities are coordinating the response.
According to information from the Castrillón City Council, the deceased is registered under the initials AI. The body had already been recovered from a rocky ledge beneath the La Peñona viewpoint during a separate recovery operation conducted last February, highlighting a pattern of incidents around this area.
Official reports also indicate that the minor had been reported missing from the Cruz de los Ángeles Foundation Center in Oviedo, where custody arrangements had been in place since the previous night. This anomaly had already been conveyed to the National Police as part of ongoing checks related to custody and person of interest in the case.
The young person whose remains were found on Salinas beach this Wednesday morning was identified through the collaborative efforts of Local Police, the Civil Guard, and National Police units who coordinated on-site and cross-agency data sharing.
A fisherman from Salinas alerted authorities about the presence of a lifeless youth on the sand, noting that the body appeared to have been carried by the tide and deposited ashore. The alert came in at 7:15 in the morning and prompted swift action from both the Civil Guard and Castrillón Local Police near the coroner’s station.
The deceased is described as a young female of approximately 16 years, with features suggesting Asian heritage, and there were no immediate visible signs indicating a long stay in the water. This incident adds to prior police activity in the Salinas region involving young people and beach access controls that have been in place to enhance safety around the coast.
Earlier this year, the same locale saw another rescue operation as a minor was assisted from a rocky ledge below the La Peñona viewpoint, an area that has been closed to visitors since late last year due to the risk of rock falls. Authorities emphasize that safety restrictions remain in place while investigations continue and a full picture of the events is gathered.
