Callosa de Segura Domestic Violence Case: Five-Year Prison

A defendant appeared this Friday before the Alicante Court, admitting responsibility for an incident that left a woman wounded in her home in Callosa de Segura. He was sentenced to five years in prison for the wounds caused and was ordered to perform 140 days of community service to benefit society. The court noted that the defendant had previously been living with his partner, who alleged threats on her life and mistreatment, factors that weighed on the final verdict.

Initially, prosecutors had sought a total prison term of 16 years and 11 months. However, at the outset of the hearing, an agreement was reached among the special prosecutor, the defense, and the defendant, who was already imprisoned for another matter. The plea deal involved the defendant admitting guilt. In addition to the prison sentence, he was required to pay a substantial fine and compensate the victim with more than 5,000 euros. He was also prohibited from approaching the victim for a period of six years.

The events occurred on April 26, 2022. The woman, who was at work, began receiving humiliating and threatening messages from her partner via WhatsApp, signaling the escalation to violence that night.

mood to scare

Around 8:30 p.m. on the same day, the victim returned to the rented home to continue her work with shoes when her partner lay on the living room couch. To intimidate her, the defendant accused her of infidelity and threatened, in the clearest terms, that he would kill her and burn the house with her inside it.

Rising from the couch, he walked toward the woman and delivered several blows to the face. When she expressed a desire to end the relationship, the defendant’s violent response intensified. He grabbed a pen from a table, then stabbed her in the arm, side, and chest, leaving her with serious injuries.

Seeking safety, the victim managed to flee the house and contacted the police from the street. The defendant followed, attempting to seize the phone, but fled once bystanders approached. He later returned to the residence, knocking and kicking at the door, but the occupant did not answer, and a friend eventually left the scene with her.

Regional police officers arrived at the victim’s home and provided initial treatment before she proceeded to a health center, followed by a visit to the Civil Guard Barracks to file a formal complaint. While away, the woman continued to receive messages and calls from the defendant. He returned to the home at 11 p.m. when no one was present, targeted the room where the victim kept her belongings, and set a large quantity of clothes on fire in the closet before escaping again. The fire caused damage estimated at 4,406 euros, with the insurer covering the homeowner’s losses and an additional 1,297 euros paid for the intervention of the Provincial Fire Brigade Consortium.
