CaixaBank hosted the Compromiso con Nosotras gathering in Valencia on a midweek day. The Wengage initiative, designed to promote diversity and gender equality, brought together a broad mix of voices. CaixaBank’s president, José Ignacio Goirigolzarri, led the session at the bank’s Valencia headquarters, joined by notable figures from various generations and professional sectors. The lineup included Xicu Costa, regional manager for Valencia, and Pilar Bernabé, Government delegate for the Community of Valencia, as well as other influential leaders who helped shape the conversation around equal opportunity.
More than 150 attendees took part in the event, which forms part of Equality Week. This annual effort marks the organization’s fifth consecutive year of internal and external actions around International Women’s Day, highlighting CaixaBank’s ongoing commitment to gender parity in the workplace.
new leadership
On March 8, the CaixaBank president framed the day as one of celebration and effort, stressing a shared objective to make the value of diversity tangible. He noted that diversity goes beyond fairness; it improves organizational efficiency and the way companies operate.
He described leadership as a catalyst for change, explaining that a company thrives when its approach evolves to foster new methods, visions, and ideas. Building a team that includes women, he argued, unlocks extraordinary talent and strengthens performance across the board.
The executive emphasized progress in recent years within Spain, while acknowledging there is still much work ahead. He highlighted CaixaBank’s Equality Strategic Plan 2022-24 and the Wengage programme as central to advancing this agenda.
He also noted CaixaBank’s ongoing focus on recognizing excellence through conferences and awards such as the Business Women Award, the Autonomous Professional Women’s Award, and the Wonnow Awards. These honors celebrate women excelling in STEM fields, underscoring the importance of role models for rising professionals who aspire to leadership.
Voices from leadership and public service shared the stage, including Carmen Becerril, president of OMEL; Pilar Caro, manager of Conexus; Noelia Herrero, a Valencia City Council firefighter; and Lydia Sempere, a racing driver. Their contributions illustrated the wide-ranging impact of female leadership across industries and public life, reinforcing the message that representation matters at every level.
