The British government continues to balance inflation reduction with measures that avoid impoverishing working people. Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt announced on Monday that the minimum wage will rise from the current 10.42 pounds per hour to at least 11 pounds per hour, beginning next April for workers aged 23 and older. The change affects roughly two million people and effectively adds about 100 pounds to the monthly income of someone working full time, 170 hours a month, bringing the new monthly total to around 1,870 pounds (2,158 euros).
