The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has initiated a criminal case over negligence after a section of a bridge along the A-333 federal highway collapsed, halting traffic in Buryatia. The agency reported the incident through TASS, outlining that the collapse occurred on the 142nd kilometer of the Kultuk-Mondy route in the Tunkinsky district of the Republic of Buryatia and that charges have been filed under Part 1 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code, which covers negligence.
Officials stated that the underlying causes of the incident have been identified, an inquiry was conducted, and the pertinent documents have been seized as part of the investigation.
On July 21, the Buryatia Ministry of Transport announced traffic disruptions at the border highway segment on the A-333 Kultuk–Mondy–Mongolia due to erosion at the bridge approaches. Experts are currently stationed at the site, with special equipment positioned in Slyudyanka and Kharbyaty. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported the operation involved 43 personnel and 36 units of equipment in total.
Earlier, Japan reported a halt to rail traffic on its busiest line, marking another significant disruption to transport networks in the region.
