Last weekend Pearl Abyss hosted the event Dancing in Calpheon, a special gathering the developer used to reveal Land of the Shining Dawn: Seoul, the new expansion for Black Desert. The event culminated with the reveal of the Wisdom class, along with numerous gameplay improvements and generous rewards for players. Attendees found a compelling mix of new content and upcoming updates for the MMORPG, including a PC and mobile expansion planned for release next week that promises additional features and optimizations.
Total of classes
First, Black Desert Mobile adds class 27, while Online players can join after maintenance on Wednesday, December 20. The next generation patch will bring the class to console platforms as well, along with a host of optimizations. Here is a direct look at the new addition:
Erudita is a noted alchemist and physicist whose abilities include gravity control while wielding devastating twin hammers. The class undertakes a perilous quest to find a cure for a continent-spreading plague that endangers many lives. Throughout the journey, Erudita learns to manipulate gravity to unleash powerful attacks on foes. Unlike most classes in this format, Erudita grants access to a second skill set, described as Ascension Instead of Awakening. When unlocked, the character can wield a mace—a two-handed weapon that fuses two hammers. The intent behind this weapon power is to bend gravity to extend weapon capability, turning each battle to the player’s advantage.
In 2024
Following the Land of the Radiant Dawn expansion released previously, the sequel will present an original story set in medieval Seoul. It aims to explore real-life cultural sites of the Joseon Dynasty, including Gyeongbokgung Palace, Hanyang Yukjo Street, and Gyeonghoeru Mansion. Similar to the mythic boss encounters from earlier releases, eight new bosses drawn from Korean folklore will challenge players. Unlike the Dark Sanctuary content focused on a solo encounter, these battles will invite guilds to join forces against shared threats. The expansion pack also anticipates a melee class native to the new region, descended from Unsa and wielding a sword alongside the Gombangdae, a traditional Korean pipe. Players choosing this path will experience an action-packed storyline that is both gripping and memorable.
the easiest things
Positive momentum continues to be felt by the development team, which plans several adjustments based on player feedback to ensure a better balance throughout 2024. The goal is to enhance the gaming experience and simplify life for players. Examples include streamlining travel through an upgraded Magnus system to reduce loading screens and enabling instant teleports to Dark Sanctuary or Atoraxxion content. Navigation across Black Desert’s vast map will improve with landmarks in desert and ocean areas when a Compass is owned. Dream Horses will become available for new adventurers, expanding early-game options.
Additionally, the team intends to ease some existing systems by adjusting item categories. Black Stones, farming items, seeds, crystals, or mount ornaments may be merged or removed to reduce clutter. Serendia’s main quest is being retooled with enhancements to guild systems, equipment, and seasonal servers, alongside a consolidation of Job levels and related features.
Updates
To celebrate this year’s Calpheon Ball, console adventurers will receive the Heart of Vell, a grant that adds stat boosts for ongoing adventures. Elvia’s Monster Zone in Calpheon will receive a winter update featuring tougher monsters, fresh mechanics, and higher-value rewards. Black Desert Mobile, along with other platforms, will roll out new updates, including the eagerly anticipated Erudita this week. The Winter Season is on the horizon as well, promising quicker character growth and new challenges for players.
