The event titled BIM Methodology Training Applied to Public Procurement was launched as a collaborative effort funded by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda and the College of Public Works Technical Engineers. It took place yesterday at the University of Alicante, drawing a sizable audience of industry professionals from engineering and architecture. The gathering was organized as an in-person session with a live broadcast option to accommodate remote participants.

Professionals across various sectors joined to begin the first module of a broader program offered by the College of Public Works Technical Engineers, with registration opening today.

Standardization: Preparing BIM Requirements and Specifications, presented by Juan Antonio García Cerezo, a public works technical engineer and civil engineer with expertise in road, canal, and port projects, served as the opening module. He currently leads the Technical Unit Alicante de Ferrocarrils in the Valencia region.

The event was opened by Oscar Galao Malo, academic coordinator of the University of Alicante Civil Engineering Degree, and Eduardo F. Vilchez López, dean of the Faculty of Technical Engineers of Public Works in Alicante, who hosted the day. He was joined by the speaker, who set the tone for the sessions.

The BIM Methodology Training Applied to Public Procurement initiative traces back to the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Agenda (TMA/94/2021) dated January 22, with public subsidies to support BIM-related training for public procurement. The initiative receives backing from MITMA Undersecretariat, providing funding to seven professional associations for BIM training programs with a shared financing model.

The School of Public Works Technical Engineers conducted a study into free online education. The program comprises eight modules centered on BIM requirements for tendering in the country. It is accessible at no cost and aimed at professionals in construction, engineering, and architecture. Multiple tracks have been designed to fit different profiles, offering 30-hour routes focusing on management, consulting, and construction firms.

Eight in-person sessions are planned in Tenerife, Madrid, Valencia, Cáceres, Galicia, Santander, and Zamora, in addition to the Alicante session already held. Each module of the final training will be presented in turn during these sessions.

A practical document will be produced as a guide for online delivery to students enrolled in the training, free of charge for professionals interested in advancing their BIM skills. The School of Public Works Technical Engineers will keep all information current through its website and social media channels.
