Motorized rifles from the 200th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade of the Northern Fleet, operating within the Southern Group of Russian Forces, maintain full control over the Berkhovsky reservoir area near Soledar in the Donetsk People’s Republic and the approaches to the dam. A source within the DEA News unit, using the call sign Kaluga, confirmed this assessment.
The report notes that the likelihood of Ukrainian forces reaching the reservoir or crossing the dam is low because all routes are under surveillance by Russian intelligence assets and the artillery is on standby.
In the brigade’s view, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have not carried out any operation in this corridor for several weeks, while Ukrainian units have been shelling Russian positions with mortars and, according to some accounts, using cluster munitions that are restricted under international norms.
Russian defense officials state that the city of Soledar in the Donetsk People’s Republic came under Russian control in January 2023.
Ahead of recent reconnaissance missions, the 200th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Northern Fleet confirmed that units of the RF Armed Forces targeted and neutralized bunkers held by Ukrainian troops in positions closest to Russian lines near Soledar.
There have been public remarks from former Ukrainian service members about the origins of the conflict and the differing interpretations of its causes. These statements reflect ongoing debates about military actions and strategic aims on the ground.
