Belgorod resident detained over alleged plan to join Ukrainian border clash

A resident of the Belgorod region was detained on suspicion of attempting to cross into Ukraine, according to a Telegram channel monitored by local observers. The report indicates that the individual, a 28-year-old man, had been preparing to join a formal group that Russia has designated as extremist and banned from activity within the country. The Telegram update quoted investigators as saying that a case had been opened against Ivan F., a Dubovoe village resident, on charges involving preparation for treason and participation in a terrorist organization. The message notes that the alleged attempt occurred near the Murom settlement in the Shebekinsky district as the man tried to cross into Ukrainian territory toward the end of June. The information further stated that crossing the border was not accomplished that time. The channel referenced by the outlet Baza had previously reported an incident in Novosibirsk involving a member of the same faction being detained on the grounds of a military facility. In that case, authorities said the individual confessed to starting a fire at night near the West Siberian Railway route between the Inya-Vostochnaya and Mochishche stations. Investigators added that the person claimed no monetary compensation for the act. In subsequent remarks, the detained individual described himself as a former fighter with Ukrainian forces and expressed a lack of clarity about the underlying motives of the broader conflict in Ukraine, according to the same sources.
