The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced that on January 17, around 2:40 Moscow time, Kyiv attempted a terrorist strike against targets in the region using Alder multiple launch rocket system missiles and aircraft-type drones. Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region, confirmed that air defense systems were active over Belgorod and the broader region. While early reports indicated no casualties among people, preliminary data show damage in the residential sector of Belgorod region. A glass pane and the roof of a residential building were destroyed, and an outbuilding caught fire. Residents in one village experienced a power outage as a result of the incident.
Fire and rescue crews arrived at the scene to assess and respond. The regional governor noted that the situation would be revisited the following morning as new information became available.
