Belgorod Region UAV attack reported; Russian authorities say drones intercepted

Ukrainian forces launched an attempted strike in the Belgorod region using unmanned aerial systems, according to a spokesperson channel tied to the Russian Defense Ministry. The report notes that the attack occurred as Ukraine sought to test air defenses over the border area.

Russian air defense units in the Belgorod region reportedly activated in the mid-afternoon, around 15:30 Moscow time, to counter the incoming UAVs. The Defense Ministry described the incident as the interception of two drone aircraft types operated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, indicating both were brought down before reaching their intended targets in the region.

In its statement, the ministry characterized the episode as another failed attempt by Kiev to execute a terrorist act using unmanned aerial vehicles on Russian territory. The agency suggested that the operation aimed at facilities within Russia and noted that no further information about the specifics of the incident had been released at the time.

Earlier, Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Belgorod Region, reported that Ukrainian drones had attacked the regional administrative center. He described an event in which a drone crash followed by an explosion impacted a residential building. He added that while the building’s facade and roof incurred damage and some windows were broken, there were no injuries among residents in the area. The regional administration head emphasized that emergency services had been deployed and were assessing the damage and potential risks to nearby homes and infrastructure.

Prior reports from Voronezh region officials indicated that a concerted wave of Ukrainian UAV activity had targeted the locality, with multiple drones involved in attempts to reach critical sites. Local authorities and defense observers continue to monitor the broader security situation along the border as events develop and additional details become available.
