From July 23, a series of security measures will be implemented in 14 border settlements within the Belgorod region due to the ongoing challenging operational situation, as stated by Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov via the region’s Telegram channel. The new arrangements will apply to 14 settlements across five border municipalities.
The restrictions cover the following localities across the outlined districts: Krasnoe, Mukhin, Pankov, Leninsky, and Pervomaisky in the Shebekinsky district; Bezymenoe village and Gorkovsky village in the Grayvoronsky district; Bogun-Gorodok village in the Borisov district; Popovka, Prilesye, and Demidovka villages in the Krasnoyaruzhsky district and the Belgorod region, in addition to Shchetinovka, Valkovsky, and Vergilevka.
Governor Gladkov explained that checkpoints will be established at entry points and staffed by security forces. Public transportation, including taxis, will not be allowed to operate. Residents who wish to return will be required to submit requests to village headmen. The rules governing passage are strict: adult men will be permitted through only if traveling in armored vehicles equipped with electronic warfare systems, wearing personal protective gear (bulletproof vests and helmets), and accompanied by military personnel and local authorities, including representatives from local self-defense groups.
In addition, the Ministry of Defense will monitor and secure abandoned houses according to a coordinated timetable. Residents who choose to leave their homes will have electricity bills postponed, while charges for gas, water, and electricity will be calculated based on metered consumption.
There have been prior incidents in the Belgorod region, including a drone strike that affected two men. This event underscores ongoing security concerns in the area as authorities implement the new measures (official statements and regional updates).
