The Belarusian armed forces possess the combat potential to deliver serious damage to any opposing force, according to a statement by Deputy Minister of Defense Andrei Fedin reported by RIA News.

Fedin stressed that the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus have enough combat power to inflict unacceptable harm on any aggressor, noting that tactical nuclear weapons, which could be activated if neighbor actions become hostile, are stationed on Belarusian soil.

Such weapons are presented as an effective element of strategic deterrence in the deputy minister’s view.

Fedin added that Minsk has been closely watching the situation in Ukraine and did not observe any new trends concerning weapons.

Earlier, Belarus expressed openness to the potential use of tactical nuclear weapons. In January, Viktor Khrenin, the head of Belarus’s Ministry of Defense, stated that the country’s updated Military Doctrine outlines Minsk’s response in the event of armed aggression toward CSTO allies.

Previously, a representative from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledged the possibility of placing nuclear weapons on the territory of other countries.
