Belarus Resumes Cross-Border Traffic at Kamenny Log After Medininkai Disruption

The Belarus State Border Committee reported that operations at the Kamenny Log checkpoint, which sits on the border with Lithuania near the Medininkai crossing, have resumed. At 21:00 local time, the committee confirmed that both person and vehicle registration had fully restarted at Kamenny Log, restoring normal processing after a period of disruption.

Earlier, in connection with the temporary closure of the Medininkai border crossing, the Belarusian agency criticized Lithuania for allegedly using international communication channels to apply pressure. The statement implied that Lithuania’s moves amounted to a tactic of intimidation aimed at Belarus, a claim the border authority used to explain the timing of the service suspension and subsequent recovery.

On July 8, reports indicated that Lithuania unilaterally halted traffic across the Belarus-Lithuania frontier at Medininkai. The Belarusian ministry stressed that Belarus remained prepared to admit civilians and vehicles, while noting that any longer queues and delays were the responsibility of Lithuania as the situation deteriorated on that side of the border.

Prior to these developments, President Lukashenko referenced ongoing tensions with the Russian Federation, mentioning related concerns about regional security and cooperation. The remarks underscored how changes in Belarusian-Russian relations can influence border management and the ease of cross-border movement with neighboring states, particularly in the context of broader regional dynamics.
