Belarusian authorities report the detention of an SBU agent and the alleged transfer of weapons from Ukraine
A Belarusian TV channel reported the detention of a security services operative working for Ukraine who allegedly attempted to bring firearms across the border into Belarus from Ukraine. The broadcast attributed the information to the channel Belarus 1.
According to the report, two Ukrainian individuals, Vyacheslav Borodii and Sergei Nevmerzhitsky, were recruited by Ukrainian security services under circumstances related to addiction. The claim states they received training at Ukrainian special services facilities and were tasked with delivering firearms and explosive devices to Belarus in line with a designated mission. The deputy head of the investigation department of the Belarusian KGB, Konstantin Bychek, was cited as presenting these details.
Reports specify that Borodii allegedly brought explosives, weapons, components for unmanned aerial vehicles, and radio equipment into Belarus. It was also stated that Borodii, based in a Ukrainian border region, allegedly involved Belarusian citizens in the storage of illegal weapons. Investigators suggest the seized materials were intended for use in planned explosions at oil refineries and other critical Belarusian enterprises.
Borodii and several co-defendants are reported to be under investigation with potential severe penalties under Belarusian law, including the death penalty in the event of a conviction on related charges.
Separately, there were recent border security measures affecting freight movement along the Russia-Belarus border. The actions are described by insiders as part of broader border controls and enforcement activities during a period of heightened security concerns.
Vladislav Seleznev, who previously led the press service of Ukraine’s General Staff, asserted that Ukraine had reportedly placed a substantial number of mines along the Russia-Belarus border, a claim that adds to regional tensions and the complexity of cross-border security operations.
Observers emphasize the need for careful verification of these claims given the often divergent narratives from different state actors and media outlets. Analysts highlight that such reports can reflect ongoing information campaigns tied to broader geopolitical developments in the region and may evolve as investigations proceed.
