In a landscape that shifts rapidly and often lacks certainty, leaders face a persistent question: is it better to organize hierarchically or flatter? Should the emphasis be on technology or people? These questions sit at the center of a discussion launched by Eva Toledo, president of El Círculo-Directivos de Alicante, as she opened the horizon for the forthcoming Opendir conference. The event aims to guide managers toward finding a balanced approach that can sustain their companies through change.
Under the banner Dual Scenarios in the Company: The Balance Problem, the conference will begin on April 25 at the Alicante Provincial Council Auditorium. It is expected to mirror the success of previous editions by drawing an estimated 1,100 executives to the gathering.
Toledo highlighted that the congress centers on a dynamic moment of uncertainty and ongoing change, during which it is crucial for leaders to position their organizations effectively. The session is anticipated to address a polarizing business climate where managers increasingly need robust tools to make well-judged decisions.
Among the first confirmed speakers for this edition will be Colonel Pedro Baños, whose expertise spans strategy, geopolitics, intelligence, and security, and psychiatrist Marian Rojas Estapé from the Rojas Estapé Institute, author of How to Make Good Things Happen to You.
regional managers and city leaders emphasized the event’s impact on elevating Alicante’s profile. Olga García, regional manager of CaixaBank, Nuria Montes, Minister of Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism, and Alicante mayor Luis Barcala all spoke about how such gatherings position the city as a hub for business decision-makers from across the country. The sentiment was clear: the conference serves as a showcase that could influence where large companies decide to relocate or invest within the province.
Barcala also underscored the importance of conference and event tourism, known in industry jargon as MICE. This year alone attracted a notable influx of visitors at roughly 60 events, with plans to close around 30 additional conferences for the coming year. He advocated for a future Conference Center at the port to further amplify this activity.

Minister Montes reiterated the Generalitat’s backing for the meeting, stressing that investing in intangible assets strengthens resilience to economic shocks and unexpected crises. She also emphasized ongoing training for managers as a permanent priority.
Olga García, representing the sponsors, concluded that such gatherings provide essential information and ongoing education that remains impartial, independent, and high quality. The event also fosters networking and tangible value for entrepreneurs, managers, and the companies they lead, which is particularly vital in times of global uncertainty and volatility. The message was clear: these gatherings are a key lever for navigating through challenging economic conditions.
