Authorities from the National Police station in San Blas detained four individuals linked to a remarkable spree of thefts, culminating in a high-profile pursuit last Friday. Local police sources provided details to Europa Press, outlining a sequence of events that spanned several neighborhoods and major roadways in Madrid.
A rapid police response was triggered by a security patrol around 2:10 in the morning in the Valdebernardo area within Vicálvaro. The vehicle in question, a BMW, was observed moving slowly yet with heightened alertness through the neighborhood as residents kept watch beside them. The scene unfolded as the officers tracked the occupants and eventually halted the car when it accelerated toward them near the M-40 beltway and along Ladera de los Almendros street. The pursuit then extended through the surrounding streets, during which the group endangered pedestrians and bystanders.
The vehicle disregarded officers’ commands and collided with a taxi near the 16th kilometer marker on Albufera Boulevard along the M-40. Police immediately stopped all occupants at the scene, preventing their escape. Although the driver evaded capture briefly, he was subsequently apprehended by officers after a brief pursuit.
The driver was identified as 36-year-old Spaniard Eduardo García Fernández, known by several nicknames including Ed, Boo Boo, and Rafita, a name linked to a history of criminal activity. García Fernández carries a long record, with 49 police entries on file. He is widely recognized for a notorious past that intersects with other high-profile criminal cases in the region. The other detainees, all from Spain, include a 23-year-old man with ten prior arrests for property crimes, a 25-year-old man with 14 investigations, and a 41-year-old man who has accumulated 32 theft-related arrests. Investigators believe the group may have used the vehicle’s tools—screwdrivers, keys, gloves, and small tool kits—as part of a potential burglary operation, and they are pursuing lines of inquiry on possible robberies targeting local businesses.
